Kitchen Hang with Fiona Beckett

Chatting wine, cooking and all things delicious with Fiona Beckett

Happy Spring Equinox my dears! How wonderful is it that we now have more daylight to look forward to than darkness? I’m properly stoked about spring, and I’ll be landing with some spring-related recipes and cooking things very soon. It’s actually very warm here today on the Kent coast, and I’ve just got back from a brisk stroll in the sunshine after a fantastic chat this morning with my dear friend

— legendary wine writer and author of the wonderfully enriching Eat This, Drink That, Live Well here on Substack.

Fiona is someone who I’ve known for a long time and always looked up to. She is so energetic, curious and knowledgeable, and she has a way of talking about food and wine that is both seemingly encyclopaedic but also really friendly. Her love of the delicious things in life is infectious, and there’s a lot of overlap in terms of the content of both of our newsletters, which are all about making the most of the abundant, joyful moments in life and sharing simple, delightful recipes, stories, travel tips and, in Fiona’s case, wine know-how.

I always enjoy catching up with Fiona (the last time was IRL, for this collaborative piece on Pet Nat and what to eat with it), and I could have spent many hours picking her ample brains about wines and the things she finds delicious. We chatted for just over 40 minutes about some of her favourite accessible wines of the moment, how wine culture has changed and what she can’t live without in the kitchen. There were plenty of really great takeaways and some good laughs, too. Thanks so much to Fiona for sparing her morning, and I really hope you guys enjoy the recording. Here’s a sneak peak:
